Someone to protect: Nightmares

Rin sat up in bed, swaeting and scared out of her mind after waking up to yet another nightmare. It had been the same every night since she was saved. Her dreams always began with her and Kagome reading under the sunlight and surrounded by fields of colorful flowers. It was her own little alternate universe with just them.

Then now that they were saved by the great lord of the west, he and his sons had followed them into her dreams. Inuyasha was just as nice as he was in the real world, maybe a little more nice, InuTaisho was the same except he never had to discipline his sons since Sesshomaru never faught with Inuyasha and was much, much nicer than he was in the real world. He even smiled and laughed with them in her dreams too.

Inuyasha would take her to the one tree that stood in the middle of all the flower fields and push her on the swing for as long as she liked. InuTaisho would take turns with Inuyasha sometimes and would tell them stories he knew as they sat in a circle around him, her and Kagome listening while braiding flowers in Sesshomaru's hair, who didn't care one bit.

Then the beautiful blue skies would go dark and thir father's hounds would come out of no where as scarry dark shadows and start to chase them. InuTaisho and his sons would fight them off but the hounds would over power them, take them down and continue to hunt the girls. It always ended with Kagome attacked first, Rin watching in horror as she heard her sisters screams and yells for her to run and never turn around.

She would run through the now lifeless fields and try to reach the tree. She knew that dogs couldn't climb trees for they were no dog demons and she would climb up to safety. The dogs weren't able to climb up but they ended up finding away. She would wake up screaming some nights after seeing the terrible dogs' faces.

Inuyasha had arranged to sleep near the girls' room incase they were needed and InuTaisho did the same. It was a good thing too. Inuyasha would run inside the moment he would hear Rin scream, InuTaisho behind him. They got use to it now that every night it was the same. Only this time Rin didn't sceam. She looked over to Kagome, who still hadn't come out of unconciousness.

She knew that Inuyasha would be close by to comfort her as he did every night she woke up screaming from her nightmare. She got up to check on Shippo. Peaking over the metal crib, she saw him peacefully asleep through the darkness. Good thing she didn't wake him up this time. She hurried out the room and ran into Inuyasha's. He was asleep too but opened one eye as soon as he heard her bare footsteps against the marble floors.

She didn't have to tell him her reason for waking him, he already knew she had her nightmare again. Holding out his arms, she climbed into bed with him as he folded her in his embrace and threw the covers over them. He wiped away her tears with his hand, careful not to hurt her with his claws before he held her against his chest and fell asleep with her snuggled against him.

The smell of fresh salted tears filled InuTaisho's nostrils and knew that Rin had had her nightmare again. He felt sorry the child had to go through everything she and her sister had. First their father beating the life out of them, then sending his hounds after them to continue his wrath, and now the nightmares that plagued her in her sleep.

His beast roaured inside him to revenge the girls for all the suffering their father had put them through. He may have been worried about the youngest but he grew even more worried for the oldest, Kagome. She still hadn't woken up and everyone was beginning to worry she may never wake up.

Not able to sleep now due to his worries for the girls, InuTaisho got up and went to check on Kagome and the kitsune. He was about to enter when he sensed Sesshomaru's presence in the room. He hid against the wall and peaked inside to find Sesshomaru sitting on a chair next to Kagome and giving her new badages to cover her wounds as he lapped at some of them that were still bleeding.

Smiling, he knew his son had a soft spot for humans just as he did and now he had finally caught him. This information would be great for black mailing his oldest later. For now he wanted to stay longer and continue to see the new side of his son. A minute later he headed back to his room to wait for Sesshomaru, who knew he was watching. But first he wanted to check on Rin and Inuyasha.

Peaking in he saw them snuggled together warmly in his youngest son's bed, a little smile on Rin's face as she slept in his arms. InuTaisho smiled once more at the sight. If only his oldest was as compassionate and quick at following his instincts towards Kagome as Inuyasha was to Rin.

Sesshomaru's shadow cast onto the wall inside his room as he walked in.

"The kitsune is fine father and so is the girl."

"So my son you finally revealed your compassionate side. I never thought I would ever live to see it."

"Then I hope you let it permanently burn into you memory for you will not be seeing it again."

"Hn. Keep telling yourself that Sesshomaru but I know you will continue."

"Hn."

"Do not fight it Sesshomaru, let your instincts take over and you will see what I have always felt towards humans all these years. They trully are treasures. Especially Kagome and Rin."

"Humans are all the same, fools."

"Uh-huh keep telling yourself that my son but you know as well as I do that it is true they are treasures. Besides, only most men are fools, never the females." No twanting to listen to anymore, Sesshomaru gracefully left ot his room without another word spoken.
